What Is a Doodle?
A doodle is a simple, spontaneous drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied. It’s often done absentmindedly and can take various forms, from basic shapes to more elaborate designs.
When I think of how I doodle, it’s a combination of deliberate and spontaneous drawings. Typically some thought is put into them, but not a lot. I’ll start with a simple design and add to it to make it more complex.
Simple Flower Doodles
This is one of the easiest flower doodles to make. Most of the flower is just a spiral shape, and then some leaves are added to it.
You can make your spiral flowers more complex by adding additional flowers or vines. Maybe some other types of floral designs could be added as well.
Also, you could try using different colors and different types of pens.
You can take that spiral and go a step further by adding some petals to the outside. They can be rounded, or have pointed corners and straight lines.
Don’t be afraid to try something you wouldn’t normally do.
Another simple flower doodle design is to draw a circle and add some arched lines going around the outside. You can finish it with a stem and some leaves.
Basic Sunflower Doodle
Another easy flower doodle is a basic sunflower. Just start with a circle, and add some petals around the outside of the circle.
Then add some lines in the center part of the flower and some dots to represent the sunflower seeds.
And again, add some leaves and any other extras you want to include.
Easy Rose Doodle
You can draw an easy rose bud doodle by starting with a small spiral shape that goes down and into a point at the bottom.
Add a line for the stem and a couple of leaves to finish the doodle. You could add several more roses and have a bouquet of flowers.
More Flower Doodles
You can take all of the flower doodle designs I showed you today and come up with some other variations for your own designs. Or try using photos of flowers as a reference and simplify them into doodles.
Try combining the different elements of the different style flower doodles to create something new. They can be super simple, or a bit more complex.
And don’t forget to try making some with color as well.
These types of quick doodles would make great artist trading cards. It’s always fun to take a simple drawing and see if you can turn it into an interesting work of art.
Final Thoughts and Next Steps
Learning to make flower doodles is easy and fun. Although many of them are quite simple, there’s also a lot of different ways you could draw them. And different uses for a simple flower doodle, like how I added them to this drawing.
It’s always good to experiment and try new things. Or challenge yourself to see how many different ideas you can come up with. A drawing challenge would be great for this.
