Daily Affirmations for Artists
Practicing daily affirmations can be a life changing habit. Affirmations for artists can help you grow and improve your art skills more quickly than if you’re not working on your positive thinking.
On the flip side to this, if you’re criticizing yourself and your artwork you’ll have a difficult time feeling motivated and letting yourself move forward. Focusing on negative thoughts and beliefs about yourself and your artwork will never help you get better.
Think about it. If you’re always beating yourself up and putting yourself down, why would you feel motivate to work on your art. But if you can stay positive and encourage yourself, your level of motivation will be much higher.
So how do you stay positive and get rid of negative thoughts? You guessed it… by practicing daily affirmations for artists.
What Are Positive Affirmations
They are positive phrases that are repeated to ourselves to improve our self image or to combat negative thoughts. Quite often, they are the opposite statement of whatever negative thoughts or feelings we are having about ourselves or a specific situation.
There is some science behind daily affirmations, but we’re not going to get into that aspect of it too much here. But if you think about self-fulfilling prophecies, we know that focusing on negative thoughts will make them more likely to come true.
And on the opposite end of the spectrum is that if we focus on positive thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, those are more likely to come true as well.
How to Practice Daily Affirmations for Artists
Regardless of the purpose for your affirmations and positive thinking, the approach is exactly the same. Choose a phrase, or a few, that you repeat to yourself over and over again every day.
You can pick something that you want to happen or you can find a phrase that’s the opposite of a negative thought or feeling you’re having that you want to change.
The best phrases to use are ones that you can get behind and believe. If you’ve always wanted to be a famous artist but you’ve never sold a single work of art, telling yourself you’re going to be a millionaire from your sales might not be as powerful as starting smaller and working your way up to bigger statements.
For example, you could start out with something like “People love my art”, “I can sell my art”, or “My artwork brings joy to the world”.
From there you can grow into bigger and better affirmations. This daily practice can help in all areas of your life. Just change the statements to fit your situation.
Below are many different short positive affirmations you can use to help with your positive thinking about yourself and your artwork. You can change them as needed. Or come up with some of your own.

Benefits of Daily Affirmations
There are many benefits of daily affirmations for artists and anyone else who wants to improve their life and positivity. Even people who are positive most of the time have negative thoughts that are lurking in the background of their minds.
Many artists are self-taught and don’t consider themselves to be “real artists”. And the myth that you’re either born with art skill or you’re not, doesn’t help matters either.
Doing daily affirmations is a great way to combat negative self-talk about your ability to create art. And it will help keep you motivated during your creative time.
As mentioned above, being born with the ability to create art is a myth. The fact is that art and drawing are learned skills which are developed through practice and repetition. The more you practice, the better you will get.
But if you feel like you’re not good enough or like you’re an imposter for pretending to be an artist, it’s going to be difficult to feel motivated to practice.
For the record, it doesn’t matter how much your art sucks. If you enjoy drawing and creating art, then do it. Have fun and relax. You deserve your creative time.
And by the way, practice and repetition will also help with your creativity. We have quite a few Creativity Exercises for Artists here.
Performing daily affirmations for artists will help you develop a positive mindset, build your self-esteem, and motivate you to be more productive. When these things happen you’ll be better able to create your artwork more freely.
When to Use Affirmations for Artists
Daily affirmations can be used at any time. By definition, they should be done daily as part of your routines. They can be done several times a day, or as often as needed.
When you choose to do your affirmations is up to you. They can be done before your creative time, or first thing in the morning. The best approach is to make them a habit and part of a routine.
You can also use your negative self-talk about your artwork to trigger a response in the form of an affirmation.
For example, let’s say you see something that inspires you on social media. It motivates you to try some artwork of your own. But then the negative thoughts start in…
“You’ll never be good enough to create something like that”. Or, “They probably have a degree in art, you’ve never taken a single art class since high school”.
This would be a perfect time to practice using affirmations. You could respond with “I get better with each piece of art that I create”. Or, “I’m just as capable of learning as anyone else is”. A really great affirmation is, “I don’t have to be great to enjoy my creative time”.
If you enjoy creating art, and especially if you find it relaxing, don’t let your negative self-talk deter you from pursuing your artistic journey.
