How to Draw a Cartoon Fox (Easy & Fun)
There are many different ways you can draw a cartoon fox. We’ll show you a couple of different ideas that you can choose from.
Both are easy and fun. And there’s a lot of different ways you could use them for your artwork.
Art and drawing are skills that anyone can learn. It just takes consistent practice over time. If you keep things relaxing and enjoyable you’ll be more likely to want to practice.
So let’s grab some supplies and get ready to have some fun learning how to draw a cartoon fox.

Fox Sketch Practice
Before working on your drawings, it’s a good idea to warm up first. This is very similar to the way an athlete would stretch and warm up.
Doing a quick sketch session is a great way to loosen up your drawing muscles and get yourself ready to make some art.
Here’s how you do a fox sketch practice exercise…
- Get some paper and something to sketch with
- Pull up some reference photos
- Set a timer for three or five minutes
Then quickly sketch out as many fox drawings as you can before the timer goes off.
This not only helps you warm up, but it also helps to get you more familiar with what you’re going to be drawing.
Another option is to simply sketch until you run out of room on your paper.
How to Draw a Cartoon Fox Step by Step
Learning how to draw a cartoon fox is really easy. We’re going to start with simple shapes like we do for most of our drawings.
Begin by drawing a circle towards the top of your paper. You can divide it in half both directions, or skip this step.
Now draw an upside down triangle for the nose.
Then draw two circles for the eyes. You can draw them larger or smaller than the ones in the example. Larger eyes will make your fox look cuter.
Add in a couple of circles for the iris and pupil for each eye.
Next, draw the mouth. This can be done many ways. You can draw a couple of curved lines. Or you could make straight lines.
Now we need to start drawing the fur. Draw two curved lines coming from the nose. This will separate the two areas of fur that are typically seen on a fox.
Then draw the tufts of fur with a couple of zigzag lines. This will help create some texture for the fur and make your drawing look a bit more interesting.
Do the same thing for the other side of the face.
Then draw the top of the head. The top of the head can be smooth. Or you can add more fur.
Add a couple of triangles for the ears. You can add a little more curves to the ears. Or some texture to the fur. There are many different ways you can draw the ears.
Finish your cartoon fox’s head by drawing the chin.
I added some eyelashes to my fox. You can add some to yours or leave them off your drawing.
Now we need to draw the body. Draw a patch of fur on the chest. And a couple of curved lines for the sides.
Then draw the feet and legs.
Finish the body by adding a big fluffy tail and the bottom of the main body area between the feet.
Cartoon Fox Outline
Making a cartoon fox outline is really easy. All you have to do is trace over your pencil lines with a black pen or marker.
You could use a color other than black as well. Maybe try using red or brown instead of black.
When drawing your fox outline you can make your lines thick, thin, or a combination of line weights. Experiment and try different things and see what looks good.
How you choose to outline your drawings will depend on your artistic style. But don’t worry if you don’t know what that is yet. It will develop over time with some practice.
You could also add some shading with your black pen if that’s part of the look you’re going for.
When you’ve finished making your fox outline you can erase your pencil lines and clean up your drawing.
How to Draw a Cartoon Fox with Markers
Learning how to draw a cartoon fox with markers isn’t as hard as you might think. And there’s only a few things to keep in mind.
First, if you want to be able to blend your colors together you need to use alcohol based markers. Bic, Sharpie, and Copic for example. As well as many others.
Second, you need to work while the colors are still wet or they won’t mix together. This isn’t a big deal. Just make sure you work on a section at a time.
Third, you need to use colors that are similar to each other if you want to create a smooth transition of color. If your markers are too different they will leave a harder edge.
It’s a good idea to try out your colors on some scrap paper before adding them to your drawing.
When drawing your cartoon fox you’ll probably want to use brown and red. But of course any color could be used. Afterall, it is a cartoon.
Avoid using just one solid color for your drawings so they won’t look flat. Use a lighter color for the base. And a darker color for the shadows.
This will help create depth in your drawings. A white Gelly Roll pen can be used to add some white highlights.
Then all you need to do is add a background and your cartoon fox drawing is finished.

Cute Cartoon Fox Drawing
Now let’s look at a different style of fox drawing. This one will be easy to draw as well. But will give you another option for creating your fox artwork.
Again we’re going to start with some simple shapes. This time let’s begin with an oval.
Then draw the nose at the bottom of the oval, right in the center.
Now we need to draw the area where the fur changes colors. Draw two curved lines that look a little like the top of eyes.
Start on the side of the nose and draw the line going up and then curving around where the eyes will go.
Next, draw the eyes in the areas created by the curves.
Now draw the top of the head. Notice how it’s slightly bigger than the original oval shape.
Then draw the side of the face.
Finish up your cute fox face by drawing the other side of the face.
Add a couple of ears to complete the drawing of the head.
Now let’s move onto the body. Start by drawing a long triangle shape for the chest.
Then add the feet.
Add some details for the paws and legs. You can add fur to the legs and some lines for the toes.
Next, add the sides of the body.
Then finish your cute cartoon fox drawing by adding the big fluffy tail.
