How to Draw Eyeballs Step by Step
Most objects in everyday life can be broken down into basic shapes and forms. Some objects are simple, and some are more complex. But this technique works either way.
Step 1: Basic Shapes
So let’s begin by drawing a circle for the overall shape of the eyeball. The size of this circle should be the size you want your overall drawing to be.
Step 2: Add Details
Next, draw a smaller circle inside the circle you just drew. This will be the iris of your eyeball.
Then draw a third circle inside of that one for the pupil. You should now have three circles inside each other.
Try not to stress out too much about your circles being perfect. They seldom will be, no matter how hard you try.

Step 3: Add an Outline
The next step is to outline your drawing. This can be done with a black pen or thin black marker. Or, you could use a different color.
How you choose to finish your drawings will depend mostly on your own artistic style. If you don’t know what your style is, don’t worry, it will develop with practice.
You can make your outlines thin or thick. Or you could vary your line weight to make your drawings a bit more interesting to look at.
This is a good time to fill in the pupil with black as well.
And as you can see, my outline for the iris went off course. This was due to the pen hitting something in the paper., which we have no control over.
I have two choices. Scrap the drawing and start over. Or move forward as planned. I made the decision to move forward because my creative time is for me to enjoy and relax.
Therefore, perfection isn’t a requirement. I want to use the drawing for this lesson to point this concept out to you.
Find a way to let go of the pressure of perfectionism. And just enjoy the process of creating art. You’ll be much happier if you do.
How to Draw eyeballs with Markers
Learning how to draw eyeballs with markers is really easy. And there’s only a few things you need to keep in mind when using them.
First, if you want to be able to blend your colors together you need to use alcohol based markers. Bic, Sharpie, and Copic for example. As well as many others.
Second, you need to work while the colors are still wet or they won’t mix together. This isn’t a big deal. Just make sure you work on a section at a time.
Third, you need to use colors that are similar to each other if you want to create a smooth transition of color. If your markers are too different they will leave a harder edge.
I’m using markers for my eyeball drawings. But you can use something different if you want.
Regardless of what you use, you’ll want to pick a couple of colors for the iris. This could be a light blue and a medium blue. Or a dark green and a medium green.
You could also use a light, medium, and dark value of a color.
Or, you could use different colors altogether. Don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun. Using some basic Color Theory will help you to make these decisions.
To make the eyeball look round, shade the outside edge of your drawing using gray or another color.

Again, this is a matter of personal preference. And neither way of shading is right or wrong.
I thought the eyeball drawing looked a little boring so I decided to add in some veins using a pink marker. You can skip this step if you wanted to though.
You can use a paint pen or white Gelly Roll pen to add some white highlights to finish up the drawing.
Finally, add a background to your eyeball drawing.

There are a lot of different things you could do with your eyeball drawings. You could add them to other objects, such as roses or candles, to create some fantasy art.
Or you could add some wings like I did here. The possibilities are endless.

Or you could challenge yourself to come up with as many drawings as possible in a set amount of time. I like doing weekly challenges.
