Art Supplies

Graffiti T Quick Sketch

Doing a quick sketching exercise is a really good way to warm up and to work through some rough ideas.

To do this all you do is set a timer for either three or five minutes, and then quickly sketch out as many letter Ts as you can in that amount of time.

Another option is to do as many quick sketches as you can fit on your paper. However you do these quick sketches isn’t as important as doing them in a quick, loose, motion.

Don’t focus on any specific details. Just get the rough ideas and shapes of your graffiti letter T on paper.

How to Draw Graffiti Letter T

For our graffiti letter T drawings we’re going to follow the same process we showed you in How to Draw Stylized Letters.

Start by drawing out your letter in the style and size you want your finished drawing to be. Keep in mind that your letter sketch will be slightly smaller than your finished drawing.

guidelines

Also, you’ll need to know if you’re planning to make your letter 3D or not. Drawing a 3D effect will take up a bit of space so you’ll need to take that into consideration.

Next, draw out your letter around your guideline. When doing this, you want to draw through your other lines to help keep them flowing correctly.

Draw lightly so you can make any corrections as needed and clean up your drawing.

Letter T Outline

The method you use to finish your graffiti letter T drawings will depend on your artistic style. If you don’t know what your style is, then you need to practice your drawings more so your style can develop.

I like adding a thick black outline to my drawings. This is done using a thin black pen. You could also use a black marker to add your outline.

Trace over the pencil lines that you want to keep. This will typically be the outside lines, unless you want to keep some of the inside lines as part of your design.

Outline

After you’ve gone over all of your lines with your marker or pen, use an erase to clean up your drawing.

Optionally, you could use a color pen or marker for your outlines. The best thing to do is to experiment with different ideas.

I do a lot of my drawings on Artist Trading Cards which saves a lot of time. They are a great way to experiment and try new things.

You can add a drop shadow using the black pen as well. Or a 3D effect on your letter.

How to Draw Graffiti With Markers

Markers work really well for adding color to your graffiti drawings. There are a ton of colors to choose from and you can blend them together for smooth transitions.

Check out our tutorial on How to Blend Markers for a full beginner’s guide.

When choosing your colors you want to make sure they go together to create harmony in your artwork.

This can be done by following some basic Color Theory

You’ll also want to use two or three colors for each section of your graffiti letter T drawing. This will help your drawings look more interesting.

Graffiti Backgrounds

For the background of your drawing there’s a million different ways to draw them. You could simply use different colors to fill the background in. Or you could add some shapes and abstract designs.

Brick walls are always a good option for graffiti backgrounds. Adding in some background designs can be a lot of fun and make your drawings even more interesting.

When doing these series of drawings it’s fun to try as many different ideas out as possible.

Conclusion

You can follow the same process you used today when learning how to draw a graffiti letter T to draw out any letter or number. Practicing individual letters will save you time and give you an opportunity to try some new ideas. You can then apply what you create into a full graffiti art piece.

Make sure you’re having fun and enjoying the process. And remember the more you draw the better you’ll get.
